Car Craft did an article on the difference between the "H" pipe and the "X" pipe. If my memory serves me correctly (they used a Lemans or 442) the "X" pipe gives better torque and slight HP advantage down low in the RPM and are equal in the upper range. I can look up the article and copy it and send it to anyone who would like to read it.

Tom,
I'll take a few pictures to pass along when you're ready. I went with the
2.5" X-pipe system based on a few comments that it was a little better than
the H-pipe. Having messed around with it, I think it's a more difficult to
install though. With all the curves, and extra adapters, there's a lot of
"adjustability" there so it's going to take some work to get everything centered
up. With the H-pipe, it looks like it will just bolt right up and kinda
"self-center" if you know what I mean. At this point, I'm wishing I had just
gone with the H-pipe as I doubt if I will gain any significant power from the
X-pipe with my engine (poly 318). The serious hi-po motors would benefit from
the 3" though.
