cool! back in 1981, there was a book published caled something like
"how many are left?" by some group called something like "the automotive
clearinghouse", or maybe the AIG. Year One had them in their catalog
in mid 80s and for some reason, I bought one... It presented numbers
with detailed break downs for 4dr/2dr/ 440/330/Polara etc. the book
stated that it got its information from the combined registration of
some states plus some general estimations I think. It covered all
makes and models from the sixties. I recently read somewhere that
that this group is still in operation but may have switched to a more
lucrative product offered rather than a book.

I always thought that their book was interesting but questioned their
claims of accuracy given that 1) I don't think they got all states and
2) not all surviving cars are registered. It could probably be said
that for their figures "no fewer than X exist", but you couldn't say
"no more than X survive".,... In 1981, it was more perhaps more
accurate than it would be today, however my 66 Coronet came off the
road in '74/75, my 63 wagon came off the road around '87, and my 66
Dart 270 vert came off the road in the early 90's. I have two friends
that both have cars that were registered in last 15 years: a 62 SF
361 car and a 64 Polara 500 vert., both cars are making a come back
too!! (as are all of mine!).

BTW: thanks for the corrections Bill....
