Thanks for the answers, So if I understand it right, to change the ratio in
my 1964 rear end, is so simple that  I only have to get a carrier assembly
from an 1964 to 1974 car and use the correct shims.
No different in the carrier assembly from 1965 when they start use flanged
axle shafts. Also no problem putting a 742 into a banjo where a 741 has
been.
Please confirm.

leave 58-63 off the list unless its an SG. .. thrust block width was changed on open diffs begining in 64 to match the SG so each rearend would have a single set of axles... prior to that, for 59-63 there were two sets of axles for each rearend, a set for the open diffs and a set for the SGs.
