Rear brakes and sqeal. If derum brakes are sqealing it is usally weak hold down and return srings. the sanding deal by
the way is just excellant advice.
the rear are wearing prematurally because tthe emergency brake cable was not back of when the brake job was done and is
plulling on the cross bar slightly all the time causung the one shoe to be rubbing all the time. This is a very common
problem even with pros as they see no need to loosen the cable because they can get the drum on and the wheel turns but
if you look the shoe is sitting slightly off the pin when the shoes are centered on the backing plate. That should not
be.
As a former service manger of a large shop i used to have to almost physically beat on my guys to get them to do this
(and have on more than one occasion actually done so. ) however when we were warranteeing the job we could not afford to
have this problem.

Don, you would be proud of me! When I was apprenticing, I was taught to check that emergency brake cable for freeness
and to double check after the new shoes were installed. It is a simple check to ensure that all is well with the shoes
and e-brake cable. Once the shoes are installed and the adjuster is snugged up, place the palms of your hands on th
outsides of the shoes (at 9 & 3 o'clock) and move the shoe set back and forth. While you are moving the shoe set back
and forth, watch the pivot at the top. If the shoes stay on the pivot, all is well; if the shoes come off of the pivot
at all, there is a problem "and you had damn well better fix it!" as I was told. I still do this check today anytime
I'm toiling away on a set of drum brakes. Gosh I miss the hoist...
Geez Don, the fella I appenticed under was of German decent as well ... ... ... He never had to beat me, but I almost
wore a driveshaft once! :-) We still chucle over that one when ever we hook up and "bench race".
