I think the main thing gasket matching does is to smooth airflow when the  
air moves through the transition (head intake/head exhaust) area.   Some will 
say it is good to have smaller exhaust ports in the heads, vs the  headers, that 
way it will reduce reversion, the exhaust pulse backing through  the head.  
Basically, the motor is an air pump and the smoother we can get  the air to 
flow through the motor the better.  You only need to go into the  port about 1/2" 
to blend the gasket matching area. Plus, using a 29 buck air die  grinder and 
a kit from Standard Abrasives, it can be fun!   Joe
