Assume 100% 
You cqan use my method , Dons law . Double the cubes. 
for the street go to the nearest below and for strip the nearest above, 
For a 440  440 X 2 = 880 so a 850(or 870 Street Avenger would be good.)
for strip a bit bigger wont hurt . 
For a 400 we use a 800 for street an 850 for strip. 
A 383 we use a 750/780 for street and a 750 780 with full mods (no choke , top cut off etc ) for strip
A 340 needs/360 needs a 700 although a 750 works well if vaccum secondaries. 
a 318 likes a 600 
etcetc.
If you use the other formumula the results when you match it will still givethe same carb size.
A 440 is almost impossible to overcarbeurate
