Transmiission Shift Cable Problem?

${top_text_ad}
Guys,
I have a problem with my transmission which I need help with. I started it up today and took it for a spin and the transmission (auto) was shifting fine. I stopped the car to put it into park, and I could not push the lever into park or even reverse. Worse yet, when I turned it off and tried to restart it, it would not start again since I could not find nuetral either. Is this related to the cable or something worse? Any idea how to diagnose this and fix it? The car is a 383 with floor shifted auto trans. Thanks guys.
I really hope it is nothing I can't fix myself either.
John
