RE: brand of carburetor preferences

It was a brand new carburetor, model 1406 (street economy). They did do some
rejetting I know after talking to people at Edelbrock. I live by Denver and
the Edelbrock guys said that this particular carburetor shouldn't need to
have anything done to it. I also know they are at least opening some because
when I got it back they weren't opening at all due to the fact they were
hitting a spacer plate they added to try to minimize the heat issue from the
engine causing the car to hesitate bad (they added a elec. Fuel pump that
cleared that up). So, after an adjustment in the plate, the secondary does
open up. It feels like it isn't getting enough air would be the best
description I can think of to give.

Dave:

Vacuum or manual secondary's? Have you checked to see if they are opening
All the way or at all, on the Edelbrock? Have you tried rejeting the carb?

Ted,
That's a good description of what I've got as far as the engine goes. I also

Have a 4 speed. All of this is in a 1964 Dodge Polara 500 convertible. I
Replaced the Carter with the Edelbrock last fall and don't even remotely
Like the performance compared to the Carter. With the Carter 4 bbl opened
Up, the car really jumped. The place that put the carb on is your average
Auto repair shop that probably felt that the carb was on and working. No
Disrespect to the job they did in any way. I want more performance out of
The car and didn't say it in a way that was totally understood. I don't want

To race the car, but when I have that urge to spend some of that expensive
Gas quickly, I want to fell like I'm spending it fast!!

BTW, thanks for all the replies to my question.

I ran a 750 on a 383 with a stock rebuild/mild cam. Stock manifolds too. Ran

Like a clock. Sweetest motor I've ever had. Had it in three different cars.
