The pin at the end of the shaft is not necessary to replace unless it is worn. They normally aren't. The shoes are the normal wear items. I just rebuilt the couplers in both my '65s last week. The pins were good. It is not just a roll pin. If you have to replace it, consider cutting it as close to the shaft as possible and then drive it out with a drift. By the way, the new seal will go over the pin without removing it.

It is just a roll pin.  Drive it out with a punch.   Install a new one and you 
are done.
