I don't remember whether you had a 318poly or something else. The 
318poly according to my '63 FSM shows the tappets to be .9040-.9045" 
with service tappets available in std, .001, .008 and .030" O.S.  Block 
clearance listed as .0005-.0018" 
Operating clearance (hot)  .013 intake  .o21 exhaust
