Re: Plymouth hood ornament?

Actually, the A poly block was, indeed, a small block in its day. The so-called wide block poly (318, etc.) appears wide due to the heads. Take the heads of an A block and put it beside an LA block sans heads and you would have a hard time telling the two apart.

And take a tape measure to the two and the differences in actual block length and width is miniscule.

As to the hood ornament, p/n 2524 200 is for a 1965 Plymouth Fury (Savoy/I, II, III, Sport) with either a slant 6 or 318. Cars with a 383 V8 used 2578 737 which had "383" on it while cars with the wedge 426 used 2578 739 with "426".

The "B" body Belvedere models (I, II, Satellite) used 2449 861 with a slant six or 273 V8, 2578 733 with "318", 2578 734 with "361", 2578 734 with "383" and 2578 736 with "426".

The 1964 Plymouths used 2417 713 hood ornament on all slant six and 318 engines. They used 2445 161 with either 2445 163 decal ("383"), 2445 164 ("426"), or 2445 164 ("361").

Don't forget, the 318 was not a small block as we think of a small block. it was a wide block. I compared that pic of Gary's to my 65 426 part. They are the same except for the engine size.

Thanks
