RE: Trailering my Mopar

I have about the same trailer, with 18' 2X6's. I went to Tractor Supply and
got some recessed tie-down rings. I mounted the tie-down rings so that the
front bolts of the front rings and the rear bolts of the rear rings bolted
through the trailer crossmembers (the eyelets point toward the car). I used
Grade 8 hardware and locking nuts to make sure nothing gets loose as the
wood swells and shrinks. I also drilled a drain hole at the bottom of the
recessed well, through the wood and crossmember so water would not stand in
the tie-down rings.

I've been using it like this since 1996 with no problems - hauled many
Imperials and even my crew-cab dually on it. Having the recessed rings
works nice when hauling furniture or large pieces as they are out of the way
when not in use. I paid $12-$13 each, if I remember correctly.

For a quick fix on mine, I put short lengths of 5/16" chain around front
corners of the "guard" across the front of the trailer, and the same around
the rearmost stake boxes on each side. These provide a point to put the
hooks of the straps, can be moved, cause no problems.
