Something really outa wack if you are hearing it in the rear end and feeling it thru the steering wheel. Wheel lugs on?

Is it only under acceleration? If so, one of the things to check is
u-joints. A vibration under acceleration is a main symptom, but that
doesn't explain you feeling it in the steering wheel though.

No clunking noise that we hear when shifting. We did put the car up
within the last 20 minutes, turned the drive shaft, and heard and felt
