Re: Oil priming

Here is my theory. --hang oil container above the engine. .Run a line from there to the lowest pont on the block that enters the oil system, probably the oil sender fitting. As the oil seeks its own level , it will fill from the bottom -up. Occasionally turn the engine crank, to open any passages that at certain rotation-is blocked. When oil is freely emitting from the highest point of the engine ( probably the rocker arms) the system should be full with oil. Sounds like it otta work, but I think I will use the drill and primer rod. and a pressure guage......................MO

I went through all my old Don D messages I saved too but no luck. I
thought it might be through the oil pressure opening. I may give it a
try.

I thought I saved Don's message but can't find it right now. Anyway, my recall is that he used the oil pressure sensor hole. That is, he took off the oil filter and the oil pressure sending unit and used gravity to flow new oil into the sending unit hole until the oil emerged out the filter area. Rigged up a rubber line connected to an oil container and let gravity do the work. He called it his intravenous prime method, I think. :)

Anyone remember Don D's formula for oil priming ? I've got an engine
that I'm about ready to start-up and I've always just used a drill and
prime rod on the pump. I thought I might use Don D's method. I believe
he used a slow gravity feed , but I'm not sure where he fed the oil
into the engine.
