Re: 383 distributor

Dennis and Gary, No it is not a Pertronics or similar change-over, It is the stock Mopar electronic Dist and the Mopar orange box with a MSD coil. Dodger and I talked on the phone today, and after telling him all the things I tryed and the symptoms, We both agreed it is in the stock elec. distributor. The former owner said the way he got it to start was by manipulating the distr. while useing a remote starter button. Thanks for your input.......................MO

Just junk the PET and go with the factory set up. Lot less problem. Not that
hard to hook up. That is all tha I run on my Mopars.

Hello,

Just a thought, I had similar problems with a new Pertronics electronic
ignition system.

I just got a cheap point distributor from one of the local auto parts
stores. I ended up changing back and forth several times trouble
shooting my problem. After a time or two it gets quick and easy to swap
systems.

It turned out that the Pertronics was the problem, they repaired it
under warranty. I now keep the stock point distributor, coil and
ballast resistor in a box in the trunk along with tools and a timing
light. Not necessary around town but a nice feeling to have it there on
a road trip.

Just a note, the electronic ignition was not stock on the car, it may
not be connected properly or the parts might not match. As far as the
electrical connections one critical connection is the grounding of the
ignition box. Double check that it is grounded well and if any doubt
run an additional ground wire from one of the mounting screws directly
to the neg. battery terminal for testing.

Good Luck
Dennis C.

Hay Mopar guys in my area-- I think I have traced the starting problem
with the newly aquired 64 Fury to the electronic distributor I havent
spent
extensive time on it cause it is C-C-COLD outside! Anyone have one they
know
works OK for a 383 that I could borrow to see if it will cure my
problem?
If that fixes it, I would like to buy it. .Drop me an e-mail if you
