Thanks for the tips. 

I got it removed. I figured if I kept at it and move the hose left and 
right while turning it eventually something may happen as it was only 
hand tight. I must have caught traction. Once removed I tried the tester 
on a 318 head I had sitting in the "to scrap" pile. Sure enough, once 
screwed in the tester hose coupling slipped instead of applying pressure 
on the screwed in metal thread. Defective tool! I brought it back and 
will try a different brand loaner from another parts store.
