Update oil pressure

After installing gauge and getting good pressure. Yesterday after driving it a while and parking it for a few hours...I started it and heard almost like a knocking sound. Did it for a few sec then quit when oil pressure came up. Never did that before. It always takes a sec or two after starting to get a good reading on pressure. I hate to tear up the bearings and such...I couldn't tell whether it was lifters or what. But it was enough to get me concerned. After getting good and hot at idle on the road its between 13-19psi and running 40-50psi. Any suggestions?
