Re: dash colors-64 plymouth fury-update

Finally got the dash painted awhile back and it turned out pretty good. Taking into account some fading on the original paint it is probably dead on the same color. The top part that is painted with the texture looks very close if not dead on also. Its close enough that I dont believe anyone could tell the difference. Bill

Bill, Thanks for posting this. I was interested in the Derby red
suede. ( same as Dodge) I didn't need the glossy lower paint as I
painted mine a differen red than stock. I am interested is seeing how
your texture comes out whem you paint it. My color came out very close
to stock and was flat, but it had little to no texture. Mention that
to your painter as the texture might be from how it is painted.
Sounds like you have plenty of paint to experiment with. My paint
mixer made up only a pint and that was plenty to do the dash and all
window garnish mouldings. Cheaper too. Please let us know how it
turns out.......................MO

My paint guy kinda dropped the ball so we ended up going to a paint shop that still had the old color books. The colors, Majestic red or Ruby  red 71203, which is the gloss color on the bottom half of the dash, was listed along with the suede Derby red 71390 which goes on the top half and is a flat color with a texture feel to it. They mixed both paints in about 30 min. The Derby red looks like a gloss but the guy said that when it is sprayed and dries it comes out a flat color. They add the additives that make it come out the flat color with the texture to it. Its mixed according to the formula for that color. Its not cheap, the Derby red was $120.00 for a quart. Of course red is the most expensive color to buy. We'll see how it comes out when its sprayed on and dries. Now if I can just get my paint guy on the ball...........  I was going to check with the vendor listed on this site but I had read where people were having problems getting the paint from them so we bought from a local paint supply house.  Thanks to everyone who gave me info on this. I'll post the results when it is painted. Now for a question; Anyone know where to get sheetmetal patch  panels for the rear quarters, inner fender, and the wheel lip, etc. for the 64? I would prefer a one piece from the door jam to the rear but I dont know what is available. Anyone? Thanks, Bill
