RE: Highway hi fi

the old highway hi-fi is cool because it looks old school and original. I like the vinyl records too

Enough of the talk about the Hi Fi.  If somebody like's it more power to them.  I happen to like the vinyl records   The CDs are forever getting messed up and skipping .  The cassets and eight tracks are better as far as a am concerned.   Less maintance.

Hey Jacob, you said twice in your reply to my little rant something about "people my age".  Just curious, how old (or young) are you.  I'm 40 if anyone gives a rat's rear end.  And yes, I agree about the "conversation piece" comment.  It would be a very cool item to have.  But that's where it ends.  To say vinyl sounds better than digitally reproduced music is utter nonsense.  If there's one thing I pride myself on it's my ear for music.  Even though I can no longer play any instruments, I can still hear them.  I can hear tones and tell if someone's guitar is out of tune which 95% of people can't.  Just ask my younger brother, also a musician.
Damn it!!  Got off on another rant again.  Well I think y'all get my point.  I'll try to shut my pie hole now.  It's been a nice banter though.  Later

Well with good records and good needle, a tube amp and vinyl actually brings out tones of some instruments better. Big bands are a big difference. I notice a big difference with my Komi Hendrix albums, I even had skeptics come listen and were amazed. I guess it's just a personal preference. I just wanted one just to have, and mess with just to change things up. I got iPod hookup in my car. Lol you ranter! :P you forget a lot of people my age has never seen this stuff. So I like showing people and getting them interested in these things. I rebuild gramophones and phonigraphs..People my age don't even know what that is lol

Now call me a cynic but why on earth would anybody want to put a record player in their car other than to say you have one.  People say "there's nothing like the sound of vinyl."  I say "Yeah, you're right.  There's no shittier sound ever invented."
If you like crackling and skipping, and the fact that you have to carry a pile of records with you to keep you entertained on a long drive, then go for it.  You can fit 120+ mp3 songs on a CD-R.  That's 60+ of those 45's, cuz if memory serves, there's two songs to a record.  And the price of a hi fi is outrageously stupid.  Especially when you can buy a new deck and a real good pair of 6x9s for significantly less than a crappy sounding record player.
Sorry for ranting but I use to be a musician (before the Parkinson's got me), and to me sound is everything.  If my favourite tune in the world could only be played on vinyl, I'd be looking for a new favourite tune.
