Hey, that's a good idea. First time I heard that. 

I'm having some initial advance issues which are making it hard to start.  I can use that to see where the initial timing is located.  Seem like there is not enough initial advance even though its set to 37 degrees at full advance.

Jay,
I forgot to mention my initial timing routine. Set the damper at the advance you desire-with the ignition key in run position and the coil wire close to a ground-rotate the distributor opposite normal rotation and note the spark timing. turn it back and forth rapidly and you can judge where it should be set. This will get you very close.
