Eric,

 

I think there was some confusion in names that are being used, and all answers are correct. ie; loop, curls, coils, springs, spaghetti etc.

 

The coils that are sleeved over brake lines are to act as shields where lines are subject to road debris.

 

The loops on brake lines from master cylinders are vibration dampers.

 

Any coils covering lines, any loops exposed to moving air will act as a heat sink to dissipate heat.

 

Just my thoughts from what I've learned, and spaghetti is a form of pasta to be eaten on Wednesday & Sunday.

Hmmm seems like this argument has been going on several sites, some say for heat dissipation, some say to protect against rocks, some say to protect bending the lines.  I'll call GM tomorrow, maybe the people that build and design them can tell us one way or the other.
