Re: paint job

When I painted my 91 250 club cab I was able to trade it out. My painter needed his 302 rebuilt. I did the machine work myself so there was no cost there and parts cost about 6-700 dollars. I helped him also. We had to take it down to bare metal and I too k the whole truck apart and painted it black.  To bad my wife thought it looked better upside down in a ditch. Crushed the roof down flat and bent every pice of sheet metal. She came out without a single scratch. Piont is maybe you can trade out your skill for someone elses.

Paint jobs sure vary in price and quality. One of the local Mopar guys, that's very particular with his cars,  has two Chargers that he shows that were painted at Maaco. They are beautiful and show well. Other guys have horror stories about their car being in paint shop prison. I've had three cars, 70 Challenger - black, 64 Savoy - Ruby red, and 69 Dart - B5 blue, painted by a one man show local guy who takes his time and does a good job. He's charged me about $ 3500 each time. I bought the 69 Dart with a 440 about a year ago that was gray primer with a black engine bay. He's almost done with it, painting it back to the original B5 blue, including the engine bay.    Gary F.

hey guys, i went today asking around for a price to paint my car. Going back with same color, they are gonna take all the chrome off etc to do it, smooth out any bumps etc...anyways, seems the price is gonna be about 3500 dollars. Does this sound about right or too high? i always hear at car shows how these guys have super nice paint jobs and it only cost them like 1500 bucks. lol -- Jacob Fox'64 Dodge Custom 880
