Re: Re: Heater Box Rebuild

Vic,
I rebuilt the huge mouse retirement home/heater box for my 1965 Belvedere with a seal kit from Detroit Muscle. Nice fit and quality. Just blast the pieces and repaint. I did have some time invested in finding nonleaking vacuum actuators. Eastwood makes some imitation metal colored paints you might also need. The bottom deflector in my assembly is fiberglass and a light dusting in my glass bead cabinet and some clearcoat paint really brought it back to life.

I got my estimate.  Although it looks like they do real nice work, the price is more than I want to spend:  $500+ for the heater and $100+ for the driver side air vent.

Looks like I will be doing it myself.  I know Rock Auto has new cores.  I saw rebuild kits somewhere just can't remember where!  I'm sure I bookmarked the site but my bookmark list is so long, it is probably easier just search from scratch.

Walt, if your vendor comes to mind, let me know.

Vic

I rebuilt the heater in my 65 Valiant last fall.   Wasn't  difficult at all.
I have the non AC box so things are pretty simple and straightforward.
Can't seem to find the receipt for the kit or the core that I purchased....will do
more thorough search for the vendor/receipt if it would help.
The kit was great with all seals, new clips, new cardboard, etc....
