Maybe it was a "Savage GT".  Rare indeed.

Positive 68, had round side markers & 69s did not have louvers in the hood like 67s & 68s because of the wave or hump in the center.  If it was a swap, someone spent a lot of money having the hood louvers made with 440 molded in.  Also the louvers that said 440 on them had a part number and CDPD logo with a pentastar on the backside of them.   I have run into a couple of 68 Darts with claimed factory 440s back in the day, the story was they were made in minimum #s to qualify for a NHRA class.  I'm from The windy city and Grand Spalding Dodge got and or created stuff the average dealer only dreamed of.  My 68 Barracuda was bought new from a Chrysler dealer, if my memory serves me correctly, in Naperville IL.  My understanding it was ordered or delivered there for a local racer and he got a better offer from Ford so the car was put on the lot to be sold.  A good friend of mine bought it and drove it as a daily driver unmolested until late 69 when the 70 Hemi Cuda's came out and sold it to me because Fox River Chrysler Plymouth in Aurora, IL. would not give him anything for a trade in or just did not want it. He needed money for a deposit ASAP & I do believe I bought it for like two thousand dollars or so, but that was a lot of money back then.  Sure wish I still had it, bet I might be able to double my investment!

Herb...Are you sure it was a '68?...or could it have been a swap-in?..'69??  I can find no references anywhere for 440's factory-built in '68. Only big blocks in '68 were 383, and the SS/AA 426 HEMI. cars.

Had a 68 formula S Barracuda with a factory 440.  It even had 440 in the center of the hood louvers like the 383s.  Another funny thing about it and the 383 ones, the trim around the glass was stainless instead of silver plastic.

yep, pretty sure 69 was the first ( and only???/ ) year for a 440 in
an A-body. I really dont recall ever hearing of a factory  1970 dart,
valiant or duster with a 440 You could get a 383 in A-bodies in 68 .
