Re: Hyd valve adjustment

Got it!  That's kinda what I expected but I keep forgetting not to fill the lifter.  I don't have jam nuts on any head I have used to date but they are  very  tight!!!  These are NOS OEM rockers.  I had to work on them a bit to get them to turn at all.  Perhaps I can add some nuts if you think it's really needed and I have room for them.

Rich, Since you have adjustable rocker arms, it is pretty simple to adjust. The cam lobe for the valve you want to adjust needs to be on base circle ( meaning valve is closed and there is no movement). You do not need to pump up the lifters, in fact I do not recommend pumping the up because it is harder to adjust them. When you are on base circle of the valve you want to adjust then turn adjuster until all the lash is removed. Then turn adjuster 3/4 turn more and lock jam nut.  repeat until all adjusted.   You can do it, I have faith in you.   Randy

I have a cam, lifters and pushrods that are to convert my poly from solids to hydraulic.  They were not offered in 1964 so my manual doesn't give any info.  I was of the opinion that the procedure was to rotate the cam to baseline on a valve,  tighten just to take up the slack and then turn it X turns after that.  I also need the value of X if this is correct :-) Can anyone verify this or give me the proper method?  I do realize the lifter needs to be pumped up for the process and I can do this by running the oil pump with a drill motor.

Any input will be appreciated.
