Re: dang electric choke

Any spot that has 12 volts to it when the ignition switch is on and no volts when switch is off will make it work. The ballast resistor is close and that's how I have my fury run and have had it like that for years. If yo pull n both wires off the ballast resistor and turn the switch  to run. Now check both wires  with a test lite and the one with power to it is the correct one to splice into now just run a wire to the electric choke + side and your in business

OK, let me get this right. I can run a wire from choke (+) down to the fuse box and use an acc spot??  Will this take care of  everything? The other way is just confusing me.

Rich,

I agree with Roger, it would be easy to check with a meter, this is an interesting article on electric chokes and fuse size.  It is for a Holley but I suspect other brands should be similar, I would start with 10 amp and check with a meter.  The electric choke circuit on ALL of the time, wire size and fuse size are important.

http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Technical/199R7972-4rev.pdf

Per this article it suggests a 10 amp fuse and warns against connecting to the ignition coil.

I did not go into detail in my last email but our cars with factory wiring are very easy to damage.  ANY short on a circuit that is not fused will damage and can destroy a wiring harness.

My preference is a switched 12V supply used to trigger a relay that gets power directly from the big lug on the starter relay.  The output of the relay should be fused.  If more than one load needs switched 12V then a fuse block is a very good idea.

I have a really nice Ron Francis fuse block so I used a key on spare circuit.  I am wondering what value fuse I should use?

Iirc I spliced in on the in side of the resistor on the firewall. When you turn  key to run it has twelve volts to it
