Re: First Car

The first car I bought by myself was a 6 yr. old 64 Sport Fury that I paid $700 for.  It looked great although later I found out it had a lot of bondo. I drove it for a year until a girl I was teaching to drive put her foot on the gas pedal as she got out of the car, reamed the hell out of the engine and caused the timing chain to slip.  It never ran very well after that and I have to confess I traded it even for a 64  Econoline van which was mostly missing its rocker panels but ran great.  I took the van on a 14,000 mile tour of the US and Canada on my way to basic training at Great Lakes in 1971.  13 years later I bought a 65 Belvedere, which I kept until last year. I have had at least 75 late model cars over the years but those two kind of stick out in my memory.

My first car you guys won't believe it.  It wasn't all that cool but I had a ton of fun in high school with that pile of junk.  It was this marvelous piece of machinery.

That's right folks.  Mine was a white four door 4 speed.  I stuffed 11 people in that thing.  It finally met its maker after an altercation with the back end of a 3/4 ton truck.  Oh the memories.

This was my first one. Bought it from my best friend for  $75 using some HS graduation and summer job money. The insurance cost me more than 4 times what I paid for the car. Found out later that my friend didn’t buy the car but won it in a poker game.

It got replaced by one of these that I bought for $150 from the Dodge dealer where my Dad bought all his new cars.
