Re: Cam for my 440

Thanks to all for your input. It is the only thing that helps keep my sanity as I am totaly upset over the thousands of dollars down the drain trying to get the nostalgia look of the old max wedge super stocker Plymouths and also have the best running car on the street and the strip.

The consensus is that it is a vacuum leak or lack of vacuum that keeps it from idling at 800-900 rpm. I agree.

I had an interesting call from Scott Preston Mr. Mopar Tech who was very gracious to call me late last night. His opinion was that the E Street Aluminum heads that Edelbrock claims are designed specifically for 440 wedge engines will NOT work with the max wedge intake due to the difference in port size. He suggested I call Bobby Joseph a head builder in Dallas, Georgia,  and get a proper set of cast iron heads to work with the cross ram to idle. I will call Bobby today and see what he says. I did talk to him early on and he told me the same thing but I listened to the local speed shop instead.

I know how to put an engine together but not smart enough to know what works with what.

Thanks again for all continued input based on your experience, especially any with different heads or heads from Bobby Joseph. I will make sure I know what the heck I am doing before I spend another dime.

Check for a bad vacuum leak. Could be the cause of fast idle.
