Re: 65 Poly Trans

I swapped LA engines in place of several Poly's  in the "old " days without any problems with the trannys.  I might have skipped a bolt or something along the way,, that I can't remember,, but they ran many many miles that way.  Only problem I can remember was weighted torque convertors.  I know for sure that I put a
'67 LA 318 in a 63 Fury, and later replaced that with a '73 340,, and used the same tranny for both engines.  flex plate and converter were the only changes and it worked fine.  This was a car I drove on a regular basis, not a show or weekend car.  It wasn't till I went big block that I had to change trannys.  Rich K used parts of that particular tranny on his '64.  Guess I just got lucky ????

I can tell you that the big block 65 tranny has a bigger bell housing and tail shaft.  I think the insides art the same though.

So I'm being told that the 65 poly trans I supplied to my trans guy is a big block trans? If I remember correctly an LA and Poly have the same bellhousing bolt pattern...correct?

The guy I bought the trans from said it came out of his 65 Sport Satellite with a 318 Poly. I know he knows a poly from a big block. Am I missing something?
