Then you don't want the "Noisy" type....they do make a quiet set.

Thanks, Ray. I thought the timing chains were the same between the poly and the LA, I just wasn’t sure if there was anything in the block design that might prevent a typical LA gear drive set-up from working.

 

Any recommendations of a gear drive? It’s my understanding that some are rather obnoxious, and others aren’t too loud. I don’t mind some gear drive noise, but I would like to be able to hear myself think after 8 hours on the highway…

I'm surprised that nobody has yet pointed out the obvious answer to your question about gear drives...

 

They are identical to the LA. As is a lot of other stuff in the Poly. Not the cam, not the heads obviously, manifolds, but water pump, timing gears and cover... all swap over.
