Re: 383 Oil Pan Gasket Question

Thanks,

I have the Mancini rear oil seal installed that I did several years ago.  As far as I can tell it is not my problem, I am getting oil dripping off of the pan towards the front of the engine however I am not 100% sure it is also not dripping.  I will not be happy if the the pan and gasket do not fix the problem but I am getting good at pulling the pan.

There is a wide range of pan gaskets from cork to ones with metal inserts.  I don't mind spending the extra money if necessary if that is what it takes to seal the pan, suggestions will be appreciated.

I have used Permatex in the past but I found their "The Right Stuff" to be a GREAT sealant but almost impossible to get apart later if needed.

I also don't have a windage tray.  Is it worth putting one in while I have the pan down?

Thanks
Dennis

I don't know what you have time and budget wise but Mancini (and others?) have a real nice rear main seal for the R/RB blocks.

Subject: 383 Oil Pan Gasket Question

Hello,

I have had a persistent but small oil leak that appears to be coming from the pan gasket area.

I want to take my best shot at this, I have the pan off,  have a new pan and I am doing this with the engine in the car.  What do you guys recommend for a gasket and gasket sealer.

Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Dennis C.
