Dakota Rear end for '64 Dart (Was:Re: 1964 dart rear end)

Ray, Are Dakota rear axles the same width as early A body cars and have 4.5" bolt pattern??  Early A rear axles are getting mighty scarce and cost a bunch to ship, but there are plenty of Dakotas in salvage yards.

I made up a jig for re-drilling the original axles to the 4.5" pattern and got some rings turned up to press onto the wheel register. All of this would be easier for you there as we aren't allowed to weld anything on our axle shafts.

If I were in your position I believe I'd be going for the 8.25" option as it looks similar to the 7.25, it is Mopar and it's made for the job. There are also good ratio options and Sure Grips available, particularly in Dakotas.
