Re: electric fuel pumps

Great information.  Just a side note, as mentioned earlier, you will heat the fuel more running the electric in tandem with the mechanical pump and attention to the safety issues have been mentioned.  You will also heat the fuel with return lines thus reducing your effective Octane rating... and they are not always necessary or preferable.  I deleted my Carter mechanical pump in favor of the Carter electric pump for less heat soak into the fuel, ability to prime the system/carb float bowls (using a manual toggle before “starting” the engine), and the increased “noise” of the electric pump is subdued by the performance exhaust note.

Cory,

Most of the guys out here in my area do not run both. There is one danger if you run both in tandem. If your engine stalls the electric pump is still running until power is cut, this could lead to gas entering into the crankcase.

Rich K. replaced his Holley unit with a Mallory unit I sent him. I'm sure he will chime in with his setup and bracket mounting. The Mallory unit is a constant pressure not requiring a regulator.

I actually have a question or two about them as well.  Can they be used in tandem with the mechanical pumps?  If so, do they always have to be on?

Thanks

Cory
