Personally I'd have a t.q on my car but I lack hood clearance. I tried and aircleaner hit hood. But they are crazy adjustable from outside the carb.   I say the 440 carb would be very close with amount of ethanol in fuel these days.  To that point. An avs taken off a 440 in 67???  Thrown in a box.   Then installed  a few years ago now on my poly. Was perfect according to the sniffer on the wheeled dyno.   Then I recently put same said carb on my 440. And yikes.  Way to lean!!!

Anybody here have much experience with Thermoquads. I have a crazy urge to put one on the 340. I have a couple lying around, but one is a later one from a 360 (1978), so smog requirements could have affected its desirability, although I have read you can modify them. The other one is a more desirable 1974 that came off a 440 truck. From what I have read 72-75 is the sweet spot for building a nice carb, and i guess that being from a truck it would have less smog characteristics than one from a carb. Unfortunately being off a 440 its probably way oversized. I was suprised to see that Summit sells remanufactured TQs for 305 dollars. Anybody ever use one of theirs??

A high school friend had a1972 2 door fury with a 440 & TQ  and and when he would jam on it, it made a very distinctive foghorn like sound. That car for a big c-body boat would flat out move and get with the program, and tromped many lighter weight chebbies and ferds.
