CONGRATS!  Sounds like a GREAT job for retirement and perfect for keeping you in tune with the auto-world.  I had a similar one.  After I retired, I worked part-time for Enterprise Rent-A-Car for six years.  There were no schedules, you just showed up on the days you wanted to work, and the dispatcher would divvy up the work amongst those who showed up by 8am.  We would pick up new cars from dealers and take them to the E-Ride branches, move cars between branches, pick up and deliver cars to auction houses, etc.  I worked mostly in the SF Bay Area, but also made trips out of the area and to neighboring states when customers would drop off rental cars on one-way rentals.  Averaged about 250 miles per day on the days I worked, which usually was 6+ hours..  The beauty of the job was the flexibility for retired folks, getting to drive all the new cars right out of the dealerships and learning which cars I liked and didn’t.  Didn’t get rich doing it, but it sure was a hoot!  DRIVE SAFE.

Ok so I feel I'm still retired but I do have a job as a dealer trade driver for Woodhouse Auto Group. Since I started last Wednesday I have driven 4 trips based in Omaha from South Dakota to Louisiana. It's my idea of a dream job driving cars to customers and/or dealers. Woodhouse is a huge dealer with pretty much all brands. My cousin is going to Pennsylvania and New York on Friday driving for Woodhouse. Lots of Internet sales. Our branch has 15 drivers and the main branch in Blair has 80 drivers!!

 

So I'm getting practice for my up coming Route 66 trip. :-)
