Re: upsizing to 5 on 4.5



I have done 3 A body conversions over time.  For the front I get the upper control arm, spindle,& Brakes and swap the rear axle. Now if you want an 8 3/4 A body, MoPar did make them, I got mine out of 73 Duster's for my 68 & 69 Formula S Barracuda's.  For my Valiant I belive the parts came out of a 74 Dodge Swinger.  I know, all the experts say their was never an 8 3/4 A body with 5x4.5 but they are simply wrong!  I think it was a 73 only thing but I found two of them.  I have seen them on eBay a couple of times also.  Heck, Gary Wilson might have had one of my old Barracudas.  I also grabbed the Master & Proportioning Valve out of them, so everything worked as Ma MoPar had intended.

The 5 on 4.5" pattern was used here from 1971 to 1981, but with a bigger stub axle and wheel bearings (these were changed after endurance attempts found the weakness in the old wheel bearing size), so you need spindle and all.

Both drum and vented disc options are plentiful here.

By the way, I understood your A-body cars went over to 5 on 4.5" about 1973 or '74.
