Re: Ignition Timing

I ran the Tennessee Valley test this morning and the result is that I still have a big question mark.  I have initial timing set at 10* and with the dist. vacuum disconnected it's at 35* at 3000 rpm.  Vacuum at idle is 6# and at 3000 it's 16#.  The upshot is that with the vacuum advance connected it's @ 47* at 3000.  The only thing I tried to do this morning to remedy that was to adjust the screw in the vacuum dashpot.  I turned it all the way in which ended up being 2 full turns and it had no effect. So I probably need to modify or replace the plate to limit the mechanical advance.  After having it on jackstands for most of the summer working on the front end I'm reluctant to start another project now that the best part of the driving season is just getting started.  But I also don't want to do any damage.   My jacked up timing may have contributed to the detonation issue I had which resulted in a broken piston and a sleeved cylinder etc.
