RE: Welcome new member -- 1965 Plymouth Fury III convertible

Hi Mark,

Yes the Chrysler Power manifold will bolt right up.  However be aware that is just the beginning - then you have to work out things like:

Air-cleaner that will work for the much taller manifold - comparison to stock 2bbl picture attached.

Throttle linkage

Kick-down linkage

Water neck

Coil mount

My build is simply .030 over with a mild ground cam:

Camshaft 256F  .435 lift x 256 duration vs stock .390 x 240  (Schneider Cams thru Gary P)

I started with an Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm) carb - then switched to an Edelbrock 1403 (500 CFM) carb and much happier how it runs.  I also ended up adding a non-metallic carb spacer.  Helps keep the carb cooler and less fuel evaporates away after parking.  Less smell in the garage - easier starting.

To do it over again with my mild set-up - would certainly consider a stock 4bbl manifold.

To do it with a stroked engine like you and Jocke are talking - you should consider the Weiand 4bbl manifold also.

Disc brakes - I went with one of the front disc kits Wilwood sells for our Mopars.  Very happy with it.

Another route is to use ’73-’80 disc brakes and spindles - many here have done that and are happy.  I tried that first - but like the Wilwood better.  Master cylinder - 1 1/32” bore - ref Centric 130.63019

Best,

Ric

Hi Ric, great shots of the engine and bay mate. Can I ask,

Does the intake bolt straight up to an original 318 poly head with no machine work etc?

Have you stroked the engine for more cubes?

What size carby (cfm)?

In the picture it looks like you have changed the brake master over for disk brakes? Just wondered what you used as it looks new?

Kind Regards

Thanks.. Ok. I did not plan to take the motor out this winter, maybe next so I will defenetly keep your setup. Another question, is it worth to do anything to it without open it up? Like headers, intake, carb, cam

Hi Jocke,

Welcome to the list!

You can definitely pull good power out of your Poly, and its pretty easy.

Parts are definitely available.  A great intake is available from Chrysler Power Magazine. Heads, are unique to Poly. Cams are unique to Poly and are available from either Gary Pavlovich, Racer Brown cams. Distributor, timing cover, water pump, oil pan, connecting rods, and crank are the same as LA (273, 318, 340) engines and are easily sourcable.

I bored my poly .040" over, added an LA 4" stroker crank, 9.5:1 pistons, a .470 lift cam and the Chrysler Power Wind Tunnel intake and got 405 hp @ 4,600 rpm, 472 ft lbs of torque @ 4,100 rpm. Not bad for a mild cam stroker motor!

Great... I'm not looking for extreme power. I want it to work on the road and in crusing lines but still got the power for some long burnouts😀.  Is there parts out there for the polys? Been looking for some intakes and heders but it's hard to find.

Thanks.. /Jocke

Jocke,

You can get as much power as you need/want out of a Poly.  I can show you step by step how to achieve your goals.  Just email me and we can discuss your driving needs for the Poly…I’ve been working on Polys since 1968 and have plenty of “hands-on” experience to help you.

Looking forward to speaking with you.

No problem on making more power with your Poly. You have first to decide how much horsepower you want the engine to produce and balance that off against street-ability. Yes, there is no need to swap to a BB to get plenty of power with the engine you have.

Hello. I'm A Swedish guy with a -65 fury III conv. And of course it has a poly 318 inside but it wouldn't hurt with a little more power😀 and I don't like to change it to a BB / Jocke
