Expert Posts: 1489 Location: New Castle PA | Hey, Cowboy! I have the VIN for the car in my database, but NOT the motor number. If you'd be willing to share it some time, I'd sure appreciate it. You can email me directly if you'd like. Thanks, Ken.

Veteran Posts: 198 Location: Bornholm / Denmark | - OK. Where is the engine # supposed to be..???
57desoto |
| ||
Expert Posts: 1489 Location: New Castle PA | It will be STAMPED, not raised, on a flat area on top of the block, right at the back edge of the water pump. Kind of under the thermostat housing. I can send you a pic if you can't find it. Unless the engine is clean, you may need to wipe that area of any oil/dirt/grease to see it. For a 1957 Fireflite, it will be S26-xxxx. DeSoto used a weird stamping for the number 1, but the last characters ARE numbers, not letters. For example, if you think it is S26-34I2, that really is S26-3412.

Expert Posts: 1489 Location: New Castle PA | Here's a photo that shows one on a Firedome. The Fireflite will be the same (location) but will start with S26 instead of S25. Remember how I said the number "1" is weird? In this picture, the motor number IS 41829, but looks like 4T829. Expert Posts: 1489 Location: New Castle PA | No, it should be silver. Guess they painted it over real thick, hiding the number. Thanks for trying!
