Dear Members,

A friend of mine is working on a very dilapidated '56 Chrysler 300, which needs a set of spark plug wires for a customer. At the moment the car is barely running with lots more work of all kinds to be done. Is it worthy buying the correct wires with insulators, or are there wires that will work just as well in the hemi motor? I see wires offered with the shorter insulators, but they look like they might be hard to deal with. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, REx

I have a 56 Dodge D500 with the 260 hp 315 cu in "baby hemi" (double rocker) engine. I have been through this a few times.

Complete sets of OE style wires and plastic insulators are available from Mopar Mall:

I have researched the insulator tubes and documented the research:

HOWEVER, although the used sets are less expensive, they are all old plastic(ish) things and are fragile, as I discovered:

Personally, I would go for the complete set of wires and insulators as Plan A with Plan B being just new insulators and then making my own wire set.

Regardless, I , personally, would keep the 56 OE look and avoid using modern 426 hemi style sets.

Location: So. Cal		I usually buy cheap big block Chevy wires with the tight straight boots on them. Then slip my Taylor plastic insulators over them. If I have the old boots, I'll buy any old wire set and swap the boots over with the insulators.
