Easier to be arrogant when the other party is overseas?
Haven't delt with them, but I do know from my past experiences of buying parts LONG distances away, that I would rather deal with a friendly source than one that gives me headaches!

ok heres my story: i bought a B crank pulley from atlas on ebay. they insisted on most expensive way of shipping. i wanted surface they insisted on air mail because "each time we send surface mail overseas customers start complaining and whining because it takes too long". i said that i know it sometimes takes 8 weeks and its ok and i won't complain. still insisted on airmail! ok, then they added a sky high handling fee and apparently forgot to send my part. about 2 weeks later i sent em an e mail and asked if they send it out already. NO answer. send 4 emails in the following weeks (always in a polite way) NO answer. about 7 weeks later i finally got it (part was ok) according to the post label they realy sent it airmail... 6 weeks late. so i paid airmail and had to wait 7 weeks. they never appologized or said sorry. we all make mistakes but saying sorry doesn't cost a cent. these people acted very arrogant and unfriendly.

First and last time I delt with them----rude and the "exact repro plug wire set" lasted about 3 months.
I also got the feeling that there was no way they would communicate by email--probably didn't want anything in writing.

Well - It appears that most of the replies fit with my experience with them. Guy was a real, arrogant, little rat pric# to deal with. I Tried to buy a "NOS" jiffy jet bag from them. The bag looked brand spanking new as advertised on the ebay. I politely asked if he had the original box or something to give me a clue that it was a true "NOS" item and not a repo. Said he got his parts is several large quantity shipments, and it came to him without any boxes, labels, or tags - just "the bag". I recommended that he avoid using the term "NOS" if he couldn't prove it was a repo. He of course took offense to this, and gave me my money back and kept the bag rather than have me give him a negative feedback. Obviously he realized I wasn't a fool to his shady business attitude. I guess it could have ended up worse, but there is still no excuse for not being honest in your business.

I hate to say this, but if you look, just about every Mopar parts gut is like that.  I just went back an looked at a few different ones.  Pretty much the same ol' same ol'.

I just kill them with kindness.

ARROGANT pretty much sums up my dealing with Atlas.I bought a rear window gasket for a '55 Chrysler. The gent I spoke with claimed to have it in hand and supposedly inspected it to confirm some of the details that I mentioned as we spoke."I ship it right out" ended up being delivered several weeks later. The package came direct from Steele rubber who was the mfg..Upon inspection, the article supplied was not correctly configured for the model involved.Atlas had contracted for a gasket for a 4 door (won't fit the 2 door).I called to discuss the situation and the guy went nuts when I questioned his handling of the situation. He refused to explain why he misrepresented having the goods on hand and eventually having the wrong thing sent.Recognizing that Steele was the mfg I called them to see it they could assist.Their contact bent over backwards to understand our needs and get the right gasket to us.End result,Atlas stunk up the situation with arrogance and mis-information..STEELE RUBBER not only fixed it quickly but did so in a most professional manner. Now theres a company I'll gladly recommend!!!

Don't you just love it when you think the company you're dealing with is supplying the part, but instead they're ordering from someplace YOU could have bought it from...THEN tack on their "middleman" and Shipping charges, then have the nerve to have the Company ship it to you...and pocket the Shipping?...THEN give you attitude when you complain!!!

That's strange. I've used Atlas twice from the UK and I've been quite satisfied. I've only bought bushes and gaskets - nothing exotic. The right parts have arrived in reasonable time for a reasonable price.

have dealt with atlas quite a few times, but only with ebay items, no problems with them and shipping was quite reasonable and quick to the uk, usually 7 days from paying them.

Second the arrogance! About 4 years ago I ordered an oil pressure hose for my firesweep with the understanding that it would be factory original or an exact reproduction. It cost about 57.00 or so and took a couple of months to arrive. It worked but looks about as non-original as it gets! -yellow plastic ring and hose that looks like something fabricated by the nearest AC shop at the corner! For the cost and the time it took to get it, I could have taken my old hose fittings to a local shop and had a more original lookig piece made. No more Atlas for me!

I'll purchase things from Atlas only when I can't find them anywhere else! Most of the stuff I've bought WORKED, but didn't have the right shape, color, or something like that. Example was a power steering hose for a '57 DeSoto. Functionally OK, but looked nothing like the original. When I called to "complain" about it, I was told "Hey, where else are you gonna find one AT ALL?" If I just wanted one to work, I would have had a local hydraulics hose supplier make something up. Buying from an "obsolete parts" supplier (to me) means the parts are originals or replicas.

Yes, that's what they said. I got my money back and bought a correct one elsewhere. Like everyone said, look up "arrogant" in the dictionary, and there's a picture of Atlas Obsolete Parts.

I've dealt with them a couple of times... been fairly good, EXCEPT that they ADDED on a parts catalog that I did NOT ask for... and proceeded to CHARGE my card NINE bucks for that catalog that wasn't asked for...

don't most companies GIVE you a catalog of what they offer?!?! Kinda seems like all should...

I have dealt with a few parts companies and they always sent me a free catalog.
I have never had to pay for one and never had to ask them for a catalog.
Most companies send one along with your order. Hoping you will buy from them again.

Hi,

Re:  AOCP

From an o'seas viewpoint parts were shipped airmail but shipping price was charged at double the actual rate.  When queried, reply was that it reflected the time spent standing in the post office line to ship overseas.  I can understand that but it needs to be disclosed upfront so as not to disgruntle the buyer.   That little surprize still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  And I would deem it unnecessary as prices are already "retail" and should be inclusive !   I did get a response to my emails though..........

I contacted them a while back through ebay about a Hood Insulation pad they were selling for a 57 58 59 Plymouth / dodge.. I asked for a 59 dodge which they said were the same as earlier 57 and 58, I said the 57 / 58 was a single piece and a 59 has about 5 pieces, After 3 weeks they got back to me and said i was right and they didn,t have one and changed the Auction wording on Ebay to Not 59..I know notice they are saying it fits a 59 again on their Auctions,,
It Clearly Does Not Fit unless you cut it to peices..never said the word SORRY though,
ARROGANT is the Correct word...

I just bought a battery tie down bracket from Atlas and although way over priced, it is a very nice product and took about a month to receive after paying by money order. My only other complaint is that they soaked me for shipping. In the future they will be a last resort when I need parts.

Many people are complaining that they were charged more for shipping than what the post office charges. How many of you people have purchased things from ebay and been charged extra (or even sold things on ebay?)? That's why it's called SHIPPING and HANDLING. I run my own business and people tend to call me to get advice, not actually purchase anything, sounds like many people are guilty of this on this forum.

Marina, my own AOCP experience involves a part I bought several years ago (think that it was a high-pressure P/S hose).

I paid Atlas for UPS "Next Day Air" delivery.

UPS advertises (used to, anyway) that your item was FREE if not delivered the next day.

The hose arrived 1-2 days late (UPS' fault).

I called Atlas and asked for a shipping credit, as the shipping was now free.

The owner hit the fan (metaphorically, alas) and told me never to contact him again, but relented when I politely
promised to contact my credit card company, to file a billing protest, on that shipping charge. Got my c.c. credit,
but had to go thru an unpleasant experience to get it.

BTW, Atlas appears at Burbank CA's "Spring" & "Fall" Flings, with a large product-display. That direct-transaction
procedure appears to be the best way to deal with him.

BUT, the quality of Atlas' displayed-products appears to be quite good, if expensive.

Do NOT buy it from them!!! They will buy it from one of the same places that you can, will charge you for the Shipping to them, tack on their "profit" on the part, then charge you for Shipping from them to you. Try Steele Rubber Parts...

FYI an update on this vendor reveals not much has changed. I have ordered over the years several times as they had parts I could find no where else. Kept the 57-59 pedals they sent for my 60 Dodges (they fit but are wrong pattern) and it turns out now a few years later my lucky finds will need them (57 and 58 CRLs). Gary Goers rebuilt the ones for the 60s. Just ordered stuff for the La Femme no one else had and sent back a gasket that did not fit a month ago. The rest of the order was correct. I called per their instruction sheet before sending a return, asked for credit card reimbursement, did delivery confirmation, after nearly four weeks since delivery back to them I called requesting refund again, and now a week later no refund showing on credit card. Buyer beware! If you can get it elsewhere, go for it. By the way Gary is a Godsend for us!!! Sorry for the rant but this needs to be said.

I have purchased several parts from Marc and Melissa. The first order in January 2012 was short. It turns out they couldnt get the rubber gaskets for the front and rear windscreens and offered a refund. The REFUND must have slipped their mind so I rang Melissa from here in Australia and received an email the following day confirming that they would credit me. No credit was received. In the end I bought some bits, which I didnt really need, for my58 Sweep just to clear the credit. Finally they obtained the parts and sent the order off to me. Nice people, but I doubt that I would deal with them again as their communication and service was too slow. There are others out there that can do better!
