Not quite a fender or vin tag, but it's a curious little metal tag set on with two tiny screws on the top of the intake on my 59 windsor... would this indicate engine assembly date?

Even though it looks like it's been screwed on, it's actually part of the cast of the block, indicating the casting date.

Thanks Ron!

That's what I was thinking... wasn't sure of the part of the casting.

I'm curious about this feature, too.

Was a new casting made for each day (sure...); so, how were the screws and the plate incorporated into the actual
casting mold??????....if a new/different casting wasn't made, each day?

A new casting was made for every block. The mould is a timber engine block.
The plate is screwed to the outside of the timber mould and then tightly packed into dry sand.
