Elite Veteran Posts: 726 Location: Some Island called Prince Edward | I was poking around under the dash of my 59 Dodge tonight when I noticed a lever just to the left of the parking brake handle. It appears to be foot operated and works a switch mounted on the firewall. Any idea what it's for? The lever itself hangs midway between the firewall and the dash. Thanks Todd

Elite Veteran Posts: 726 Location: Some Island called Prince Edward | Ahh. that makes sense as I do have the Jiffy Jet option. Would this switch also cycle the wipers? There seems to be a lot of wires coming out of the switch. I'll post photos tomorrow.

You would think it much simpler for Chrysler to have a dash mounted switch! Todd

Pretty cool to have foot operated windsheild wipers. ;)This is a foot operated water pump for cleaning the Windshield (can see the rubber pump on the later posted pics), the wipers are operated by the switch on the instruments panel. Greg, I think you mean this as well. For this purpose there are small electrical water pumps available in eBay. Here you need a separate electrical switch which will activate the pump as long you are pressing. - SERGE -

Elite Veteran Posts: 726 Location: Some Island called Prince Edward | So, if I understand correctly, the bellow pumps the washer fluid and the lever also closes the wiper switch and cycles the wipers? Neat!

Expert Posts: 1215 Location: SWITZERLAND | toddst - 2010-04-02 11:10 PM So, if I understand correctly, the bellow pumps the washer fluid and the lever also closes the wiper switch and cycles the wipers? Neat! To be honest: since I put a new Jiffy and all new water hoses, I have never put water in. I didn't see any electrical swtich or wires to operate the wipers, nor in the manual or in the electrical schematics. There is only the mechanical washer fluid pump. Does somebody has a foot switch for the wipers? To add, on my 1959 Dodge is a two speed wiper, may-be this is the reason? - SERGE -

Expert Posts: 1215 Location: SWITZERLAND | Error: I had a look at and found the wiper switch, never being used. The white cable right hand goes to the switch for the hand brake (just hidden). - SERGE - (2010-04-03 Wiper Foot Switch LL.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 2010-04-03 Wiper Foot Switch LL.jpg (80KB - 198 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 1107 Location: Arvada, Colorado (NW Denver Metro Area) | Todd, how does your parking brake light indicator switch work? Is it when you pull it (the lever/shaft) the switch is closed (button opens up) and when you retract it the switch is the (button then is depressed) but electically open? I am tring to figure out a way to get my light to work when the parking brake is set..

Elite Veteran Posts: 1107 Location: Arvada, Colorado (NW Denver Metro Area) | I am also adding the Jiffy jet option to my convert but the foot lever for the washer did have the switch on it (wires were cut, came out of a 59 Chrysler) but I just took out the switch and am just going to use the foot pump for spritzing fluid on the windshield manually and then turning on my two speed wiper switch. Old school! I guess someday I will put the varible speed switch and varible speed wiper motor in and make it a full system but this way will be fine for now.

Member Posts: 12 Location: Southern Ohio | That is the Jiffy Jet washer pump and wiper switch. You push it with your foot and it sprays washer fluid on the windshield. It also makes the wipers cycle as long as you hold it down. I am pretty sure it may be for the variable speed wipers. There is a plastic check valve located near it in the engine compartment. Some of the pumps did not have the electrical switch part on them. There is a small rubber pad missing from the bottom of your pedal. It is available from Gary Goers. The rubber bulb (pump) part is still available from Ford. It was used in their cabover trucks as the washer pump (. Autolite made just about all of the electrical parts for MoPar in '58. Remember, Ford bought out Autolite later). The check valve may also be available. Larry S.

Regular Posts: 77 Location: Denver | I have this same setup in my 1961 Ghia L 6.4 (Italian-bodied car with mainly Mopar mechanicals). However, my setup doesn't seem to have a means for the electical switch inside the foot pump mechanism to be activated when I step on the foot pump....am I missing a lever or some other part? Thanks for any advice or suggestion!
