| Hi All,
WOW, am I happy to have found this forum!! New owner of a Red, Black, and White 55 Lancer Royal with 38k original miles!
Does anyone have a source for Brake Shoes? The only ones I have found on line are like $65/set, OUCH! Also, Drums?

Location: Buena Park, CA | Welcome to the forum Patrick! This is a great place for information. I own a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. My first piece of advice is find a good psychiatrist, meditation program, and/or large beer fridge to ease the pain over the sticker prices of some of the items for these cars. It can hurt, but you will enjoy your car much more, if you don't care about it. Brake shoes can be found anywhere from Ebay to Napa to specialty dealers like Andy Burnbaum (oldmoparts.com). Drums will need to be found used. No new ones are being made. "Big M" on this forum may be able to help you with that.
The brakes can be VERY difficult to adjust if you don't have the right tools and/or know-how. Because of the wear on my brake drums, I ended up having brake shoes made by a local old-school shop. It was pricy, but if there is one place where you don't want to cut corners, it is with your brake system.
My second piece of advice is to get a shop manual for you 55 Royal. You can get them on ebay for $20-40.

Location: Magra, Sweden | Welcome to the forum Patrick. The tool shown in the shop manual I believe is hard to obtain.
The handy tip to adjust the brake is to make a screwdriver slot in the outside end of the anchor bolt (top and bottom front brakes) so you can adjust the position of the fixed end of brake shoe as close as possible with the drum in place. |

FirmFeel.com can have their subcontractor bond-on their 2" (or whatever size you need) carbon-metallic "Centerplane" (-style, for our FWDLK cars)linings onto your car's donor-shoes, for maximum braking response.
F.F. will need to receive your (car's, or wrecking-yard!!) donor brake shoes, on a 'core exchange' basis, because they do not stock the Centerplane assemblies
on hand..
I've had F.F.sell me a set of their pre-done 3" Bendix-type/style brake shoes, which were installed on the mid-60's MoPars, and the stopping power increase
with the carbon-metallic linings is very noticible.

Location: Falcon, CO | If you need more than just brake shoes, Kanter Auto Products sells a kit with the master cylinder, all wheel cylinders, three hydraulic hoses, return springs and all the shoes for $425 plus shipping. As noted by previous posts, be prepared to open your wallet wide for FL vehicles! (I just paid $110 for a NOS heater control valve for my 57 last week...) |

| AND ---- if you want the real deal --- N.O.S. ASBESTOS --- Brake shoes --- such that you don't rip your brake drums to smithereens!!!!! and have to open your wallet
r e a l w I d e for BRAKE DRUMS / HUBS & DRUMS --- I have the 1946 - 1956 Brake Shoes and the 1957 - 1962 Brake Shoes in EVERY SINGLE SIZE at the moment....
Also American made Wheel Cylinders, Brake Hoses, etc., etc....

| Sounds like you're trying to stay original but I put 4 wheel disc on my 55 custom royal, used aspen rotors and calipers on the front and for the rear i separated a pair of rusted out drums from the hubs and slid on jeep front rotors and aspen calipers. Now she stops on a dime! |

For example, do you now have 12 x 2 1/2" brake shoe assemblies in hand and ready to ship out?
Are your 12 x 2 1/2" brake drums the new modern re-pops (the 11x 3" re-pop drums now being sold on Evilpay work fine on my car) or are they
'vintage' (used wrecking yard/refurbished) or NOS ?

| I have the 1950 - 1955 12" x 2" Brake Shoes, I have the 1956 - 1959 12" x 2 1/2" Brake Shoes, and I have the 1960 - 1962 12" x 2 1/2" Brake Shoes --- All ++ N.O.S> ++
ASBESTOS ---- so that you don't "rip up" these brake drums ---- ALL N.O.S. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also have some (not many) 1963 - 1972 11" x 3" N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++
I have only a few remaining N.O.S. 12" x 2 1/2" BRAKE DRUMS (Sorry, NO MORE Hubs & Drums for any 12" x 2" or 12" x 2 1/2") and I still have about 150 N.O.S. 11" x 3"
U.S.A. made Brake Drums -- the "Evilpay -- ***ie ones" are a problem -- people are creating Hub issues from warpage -- YIKES !!!
