Hello All,

I am the Proud Owner of a Canadian Built 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer 2DR Hardtop with the 313CID Polysphere V-8, Standard Transmission with a 8 3/4 Rear End.

I went out for a drive with the car the other day, checked the oil before I left it was 3/4 Full, did about 35KM, Oil light comes on, pulled over immediately, Oil level was on Add, checked for leaks no leaks. Topped up oil to full, then drove it home, lost 1/4 oil.

I did a compression test on each cylinder, Each Cylinder has 130PSI Dry, 135PSI Wet (teaspoon of oil down the cylinder) So Piston Rings are okay.

Im wondering if I should pull the cylinder heads, have them machined, replace the Valve Stem Seals & Head Gasket?

Any Thoughts or Ideas?? Greatly Appreciated

Hard to say

Its normally rings if its happening while driving, valve stems are more a start up thing

A compression test does not really test your oil control rings, just your top 2 rings

How old is the engine ect ect ect

Does the car smoke at all? For the amount of oil you say it used it should be smoking a lot if it's not leaking out. For the amount of oil you say it used in 35KM (I read what you posted as using 2 to 3 quarts of oil) I would think the plugs ought to look oil soaked. How did they look when you pulled them to do the compression test?

The car is spitting oil out of the exhaust, No Blue or White or any smoke. each spark plug out of each cylinder has oil on it. The car was built in September of 1959, so the Engine is 55 years old

Unless the seals are completely worn out and cracked due to age.

The piston rings are most likely stuck on most of the pistons. There is not much you can do about it. Did the engine sit for a long time? You may need to do an overhaul.

This is gonna sound dumb, but make sure your dipstick is correct. If it is homemade, it is possible that it isn't really registering in the actual oil pan and the reading you are getting isn't correct.

I would suggest a cylinder leak down best as a better way to check for bad rings.

How does the car look underneath? Is it oil soaked? are you leaving a pool of oil in your driveway after you ride around in it?

Engine bay is dry, no oil leaks, I changed the oil on the car, The old oil filter was plugged up and broke down, put fresh oil new filter, since that no more oil loss at all. This is very strange how this happened.
