I just noticed a problem w/ my Powerflite in the last week...

Sometimes when I stop (or slowdown) and try to start off again the engine just revs and the car will not go. It will even roll down a hill as if it's in neutral! Its especially scary/embarassing when I pull out onto the highway and the darn thing wont go...Usually about 2 seconds later the transmission will grab and it will drive fine. It has only happened on hills, going up or down.

My trans fluid is almost on full. The transmission pan does leak however.

Any ideas/suggestions before I do anything major?

Thanks guys.

Do you still have the in-line filter? It may be in need of replacement. Did it start this behavior suddenly, or has it crept in slowly getting worse over time?

I would change the filter and maybe drop the pan and check the valve body bolts for tightness. It sounds like you are getting a drop in hydraualic pressure and these are the two most common places to check first.

And also I'm not too familiar with an in line filter. Where is it located?

Where can I get a replacement filter?

I hadn't driven the car on the road until a week ago. So I don't know if it was like this before or not. I just notice that it happens everytime I go out.

Try TFlite Patty (actually a guy!) at this eBay store.
He sells them for the early Torqueflites (Powerflites should be the same)

The filter should be under the car, but I just realized you said powerflite. Not positive the powerflite used cooling lines and a filter. If it did though, there should be an in-line filter in the low pressure line.

Pat is a good guy. I have talked to him many times. Ask him his opinion of your problem. Bet he nails it exactly.

Austin...

Check your PMs.....

BTW...You can add water cooling to your Powerflite.
Dreg the archives on this, as I know I described it at least once before.
