Just seen the national news today . Treehuggers in Congress are giving Bush a hard time about carbon dioxide levels from cars , and are urging to start testing output levels . I do believe that would take a lot of cars off the road . Bush told them there is no way that anything could be done (way too many cars). From the sounds of it they are going to push this issue . That would be a huge task to put into action . But time would tell . That is a brief summary from a person (me) that can mess up the details just from hearing it then transating it into print . Guess that would make me a good reporter . Some of you guys who monitor the news closely , help me out here by filling in the details . Well the way I see it , if they take away the car hobby , I ll just start buyin more guns with my would be car hobby money . He He He .

I read the report. "The 5-4 decision said carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases emitted from tailpipes are "air pollutants'' covered by the Clean Air Act of 1970 -- rebuffing the Environmental Agency's view that it lacked authority to regulate those emissions. And though the court stopped short of ordering the EPA to set mandatory limits, the justices rejected the Bush administration's claim that voluntary programs were an effective substitute." linky: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/02/BAG06P0... Some folks are just CRAZY with this stuff. We have to wake up because the EPA is out to destroy our hobby. Al Gore and his tree hugging buddies want to take them all away. Al complains about all this enviro stuff but flies in a private jet all over the country. One recent Al Gore private air trip burned enough fuel to propel a car for around 100K miles. The elite of this country want to live it up at our expense. It was reported on Fox news that Al Gore's house burned 22,619 kw of electricity in one month. That is 2 times the amount of an average household uses in an entire year. Here is the link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,254908,00.html Napoleon said it all: "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal that others." The environmentalists all but killed the coal and steel industry in this country. All the acid rain talk in the late 70's and 80's put an end to all of that. They got what they wanted and you NEVER hear about it now. Ok Ok enough!

Did you know ,that in Japan , it is mandatory to pull your motor at 50k and replace it or junk the car because of the emission levels . A buddy of mine had a shop a few years back and whenever they needed a used Jap motor there was an outlet to buy them in the US , cheap , like 500.00 .

Wish I had known about that when I blew the engine in my 300ZX years ago. A used replacement was $2000.

Emmisions testing is not that new, we have had mandatory testng here in Missorui for several years. If you live in certain counties your vehicile has to pass the testing each year before you can get it licensed. Our cars can be resigisted with historic plates and if you do then you don't have to test it, but if you want to license it as a daily driver, it has to pass.

Perhaps Al Gore and the enviro-kooks in congress should stop breathing for 3 years...that might reduce carbon dioxide levels dramatically.....

The clowns in Parliament have already started on us in England........As from next year, Any person with a 4x4 vehicle will have to pay an extra £400 road tax ( circa $800 ) compared the the normal £160 per year for regular cars.. My guess is that us V8 owners will get hammered next !!
More toxic emmisions rise out of Parliament EVERY day, compared to all the cars in England...

That just goes to show you that this isn't about pollution at all, but rather about how much money governments can bilk people out of. If they were concerned about cutting pollution, they would implement laws that set tough emmision standards for new vehicles that are sold, and not worry about preexisting vehicles, and fining people who have larger engines and vehicles. I have asked the question many times, what is the percentage of old cars you see on the street, even in poor areas? It is extremely small, in fact I tried to count every time I saw an 80's or older vehicle on the road for a short time today, I believe in the course of seeing about 100 cars, I counted 8 80's or older vehicles.

In California, while known as one of th emost clean air stringent place in the US, we have something a little different. All vehicles built prior to 1975 do not require any emmissions test. the idea is that the vast majority of these cars are driven less and maintinence with extreme care. They almost always pass smog inspection anyway.
