hey

I'm the 4th ovner of this car, the first ovner was a veterinary somwhere in california or arizona i has been told, he had the car until 1995 when is was sold to Norway, the fist norwegian ovner did much work on it, the engine, rear axel, the suspension, new paint.. but not the braks. the car was sold again 2001 and since that the car has only been driven 5-6 tims due to some break problems, i bought the car in april this year and now its getting new breaks..

Hey Stian..

Nice Saratoga you have there, You must of had a Blast driving it for the First time after you Had the Brakes Rebuilt,,

One Question, Has someone Rewired the front Lights, as i notice the park / Running lights stay on with the Headlights, On my 59 Dodge and 59 Chrysler Windsor those Park lights go out when Headlights are switched on.. Is this something that had to be done for your country Law. ???

i think it depends upon in which state the car was sold in. in california, for example, the park lites stayed on with the low beams. i think, not sure, in mississipi and new york and probably other states too.

thanks...

yes someone has rewired it.the car got a new wiring harness some time in the late 90's
so the park lights goes on when you start the car, and that's not right..
but i think they should stay on with the headlights.

Yeah; 59 Chryslers ROCK! (or, is that "Plymouths"???).

Ron Mog (Clive) from Apple Valley, SoCal, ALMOST drove his black/silver '59 NY'er 2-dr to Tulsa!!!! Ended-up taking his blue/blue 56 Ny'er fully-loaded 4-dr sedan there. Ah, choices!

Stian, are you 'searching' for a radio, or rear ashtray, for your car?

If you want to ship your car to CA, I can guarantee that it will get well exercised, this winter (looks like rain may be an endangered species, down here!).

Be sure to 'hit' the two big Phoenix yards, Desert Valley & Hidden Valley, and Neil Frenman's in MT, and Moore's in SD,
and, there's even a good one , in CA (near Fresno---or, is that our own private-secret, John??)

The 2-tone on roof looks great on that body style. I pray my Suburban looks that good eventually, but I don't think the wife will let me open my wallet that wide.

So far as I know, the manufactuers did not wire the park lamps to come on when the headlamps were on until the 1969 model year. It might have been a Federal mandate such as the rule that said side marker lamps had to be installed on 1968 and newer production cars. When I was growing up in Ohio all cars made prior to 1969 had park lamps that only came on in the light switch's park setting. When you turned the switch all the way to turn on the headlights the park lamps went out. So far as I remember there was no state rule on this.

California did have stricter exhaust emisson rules because of their smog problem in the 60s and 70s, and the car makers had to build Federal (49 state) cars and California only cars with different engines. Californa could have had a seperate light rule about the park lamps, but I don't remember that and would have to be shown proof.

Heh, on a '57 Dodge, the fully-operational park lamps would look like they were actually dim-failing headlights !

WOW; check-out the neutral-cornering of the car, as seen at the bottom of page-1 of this thread!

Hi Stian.

Realy great looking Saratoga you got there.
Is that picture taken from the hill climb on Classic Car Week in Sweden?
Maybe its Håkon Strøm of the WPC club norwegian region that is driving?
He is hard on that hill climbing.

Yes, miss molli is still waiting for the spring to come and not least the sun to shine.
Monday was a nice spring day and today its right back to the winter and lots of snow.

It wasn' t hard to rewire FL cars so that the park lamps were on at the same time as the headlamps. When I was in college in the Fall of 1968 I had a 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix 2- door to knock around in. I wanted my car to seem like it was up-to-date like the new 1969 models so I put the wire for the park lamps on the same switch contact as the headlamp feed. Worked like a charm and it only took five minutes. I never saw another FL car during that time with the wiring so modifed that I can remember.

Eric, the silver-roof-trim, over black, with the gray/black interior, is JAW-dropping....

The car looks excellent with Foxcraft fender skirts (probably one of very few FWDLK'ers that do look good with them;
the 61 Soto 2-dr being another, along with the 55-56 PLY's, but, I digress) because of the chrome trim that runs along
the lower areas of the car, and with its kicked-up quarter trim.

I can probably dig-up some pics of the car, & PM you the shots, as this is not the thread, for a 59 NY'er 2-door.
