Expert Posts: 1590 Location: Scottsdale, AZ | Well, with the help of my neighbor, she's finally out. And for everyone's info......there are "8" bolts holding on the torque converter, not "6". Thats why the torque converter came out with the motor. But we had a jack under the tranny, so we kept it level with the motor when pulling out. Edited by jsrail 2007-09-09 1:41 PM

Expert Posts: 1590 Location: Scottsdale, AZ | Doctor DeSoto - 2007-09-09 2:58 PM Why are you pulling the motor, anyway ? Someone dropped a screw down the carb and I have 2 scored cylinders. Its missing the fuel pump. I want this to be a daily driver, so may as well get it put back together right and basically have a brand new engine. I already pulled the heads off, so seemed prudent to just get it fixed right now rather than slap the heads back on and see if it would run. Jay

Next weekend I'll tear down the block and then get it to the machine shop so they can see what its going to need. Hopefully it can be saved.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7809 Location: Williams California | Glad to hear that the engine came out OK. It can make things a lot more difficult trying to do this outside under the sun. How bad was the scoring in the cylinders? Could you feel them with your fingernail? ---John

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7809 Location: Williams California | Jay, if you can feel the scores with your fingernail, a honing will not remove them. It's looking like you will need to have the block bored, hopefully only .030 over. ---John

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The tops of the cylinders may have been lip-ridged badly enough to warrant a boring, any way, or, at least a ridge-reaming operation. Since it's out, now, Jay, you might as well go all-through the block, huh ?

Since it's out, now, Jay, you might as well go all-through the block, huh ? Yup Neil, thats what I plan to do. As soon as I tear the block down (to save some money), all the parts go over to the machine shop so the tell me the bad news, or at least I hope its not too bad news!

Expert Posts: 1590 Location: Scottsdale, AZ | Well, I stripped the block down today. The cam doesn't look bad and neither does the crank, but we'll see what the machine shop says. I'm hoping to deliver the block and parts Monday as I have to go to Las Vegas to meet with a client Tues. and Weds. And now the nuetral safety switch has gone out in my wife's 2000 Disco II, just what I need, another $500 part! The rods and caps were already number stamped which leads me to believe she's been tore into before. The scored cylinders are my biggest worry right now. Don't know if its been bored out before, worse case, we sleeve them all! Jay
