Some have noticed I haven't been posting much lately. I have been having vision problems for several months. If you close one eye and open the other just enough to keep from tripping over chairs, that is what it's been like for me. Left eye is and always will be about 30% vision because of retina danage. No accident or disease, just extreme near sightedness over many years. Six years ago I had a cornea transplant in my "good" eye. It never healed properly and it has given me a lot of little problems from time to time. A few months ago I goy a strep infection in it that took all vision from that eye. With nedication we finally got that cleared up and I was seeing pretty good for a couple of weeks. Then I got a bad fungus infection ( possibly from corn-bean dust) This one "melted" the cornea--hurt like hell! Several weeks of high powered and EXPENSIVE medication ($1350 for a seven day supply of one kind of pills) and the Doc said I would have to have another cornea transplant which was done dec. 7th. I am slowly regaining vision in that eye and it will take some time . There are 16 stitches in that eye that need to stay in for 4-6 months. Thank goodness it is not painful. I have to use a magnifying glass to read the PC monitor!
But this is a blessing for me. If this heals as it should, I will have the best vision I've had in MANY years- and hopefully without wearing contact lense. If you are so inclined, a little prayer for me would be much appreciated.
I do have a new project in anticipation of better days. a 1964 Dodge 440 body- 2 door hardtop - less engine and tranny--very solid car from California. Only damage I could " FEEL" (lol) was a little crumple in RF fender and a few front end dings and two small rust holes in floorpan. Interior headliner top bows and window moldings are missing. I'm thinking a 426 wedge and 4 speed need to go in this car. I got California black plates with it but don't know what value they have --everyone seems proud to have them?
I sincerely wish you all a healthy -prosperous -HAPPY NEW YEAR!!.......................................NO

Godspeed, Steve.

Thanks to years of playing drums in various blues and big swing bands, I've had ringing and occasional hearing loss in my left ear since the mid-1990's - enough to affect my balance in some instances. I've learned to compensate for that over time, but I can't even begin to imagine going through losing any sense of vision. My prayers are with ya, brother.

Hey, Steve (thanx for the PM!) godspeed to ya!

Black plates are desireable in-and-of themselves, as a collector's-item, but, once they're inactive for 4 years, on a specific car, they can't be re-activated on that car, or on any pre-63 car.

They can be used (IIRC) as a "Year-of-Manufacture" license plate for 1963 -1969(?) cars, but they can not be legally retrofitted on a pre-63 car; that's why a black-plate is so desireable: it means that THOSE plates have been actively-registered on a specific pre-'63 car since 1963, when EVERY registered CA-car had to surrender whatever-vintage-plates that it had been wearing, and install the then brand-new 1963 black-plates.

So: EVERY car on the road, in 1963, had black plates on it. You can see black plates on a 1928 Dodge, if that car has remained currently-registered (without any 4-year registration-lapses) in CA, since 1963, OR, if that car came into the state between 1963-1969, when black-plates were issued.

My car got brought into CA (from IN) in 1980, when the blue/gold plates were issued, so, it has continued to wear those colored-plates, which can not be retro-fitted onto a car, today (dunno if they qualify as Y-o-M, yet!)

Cornho,,,,,,,,, 'er,,, COB. Yep, it SUCKS to be gettin' old. Especially when you got a '39 year old brane' in a 60 something year old body! ( I can 'feel' for you)
Brain is enguaged, but, the body want's to watch a soap opery, or, try and take a nap. %$#@in' brain! Wants sex, but to satisfy it, one has to rely on that little blue pill.
At least you got yer mind (faculitys) It's NORMAL to forget where you laid your car keys. But, you know it's bad when you forget what your car keys are for!
Which is worse, being able to do something, but can't see to do it? Or, being able to see, but, can't do anything, because you can't move?
Which sucks for me, is, having to get one of those sissy, girliefide, 'easy queeze' clutch kits for the Harley, because I don't have the strength in my left hand to squeeze the friggin' clutch!
(I'm lookin' for another vehicle. One that has POWER steering! By the end of the month, I will either, be back on this board with a vengence, or totally be gone forever!)
Do 'this' Corncob. THINK you are 39 all over gain! Don't even dwell on what ever problem it is you (THINK) have!
If you 'think' you are old and decripted, you will project to others you are a card carring old fart.
People think I'm 10 years younder than I really am! If I would use that 'hair coloring' feces, I bet I could pass in my mid 40's. (But I wouldn't be a old, crotichity, grey bearded biker then, would I? Whoo-Haw!
NOW, go act yer age, and quit THINKING, that "my &^%%$y hurts, I'm gonna sit around here and feel sorry for myself attitude"
You can walk can't you!? I double dog dare you to get off yer ass, and go out walk a 1/4 mile. I don't give a flyin fart in a hurricane, that you got 50 feet of snow out there! That's NOT an excuse! You can walk in a tire track can't you!? Then, walk that 1/4 mile back! Keep extending that pace. Next time you go to the mall, park in the farthest parking spot, then walk.
You do that EVERYDAY for a month. Then, you send me a email telling me how you feel. How much better you feel! I bet you a dime to a small hole do-nut, your wife will get that 'sparkle' back in here eye. Mark my words!
I walk a 1/2 mile 'round trip, every day, taking the youngest daughter down to the school bus every day.
On week ends, when I don't walk, my knees get stiff, I ' feel old' because it's too painful to climb stairs. Once the pain is gone after a half dozen 'forced' steps, I can take a set of steps two at a time, because I put my mind to it, and 'will' the stiffness and pain away.
I just have to watch where and when I do this 'bounding' The disability people may have their 'watchdogs' on me.
Now you quit feeling sorry for your self, get off yer ass and go 'strut your stuff'
Now repeat after me. I don't hurt anywhere! I'm ^%$#in' Super Corn Cob! I'm gonna go prove my self, the quacks are wrong! Look at me, I can walk better than the old farts that have 'given up' sittin' in the old fart's homes!
NOW, GIT OFF YER ASS and make yer wife proud of you!!!! Sic 'em!

Hey Steve, Here's hoping you can keep your finger out of your eye, at least for a while. You got a lot of people pullin' for you from the posts on this thread. If Neil tells you what to do with your black plates, pass it on. I've got a pair that I was about to throw away. I'd offer to trade medication bills with you. Except I'm still short of the "donut hole" (Medicare Part 'D', ya know.) Here's hoping your 2008 brings you the abilities to enjoy all you can.......... Wbower3

Hey, Steve & Walt (Bower); those black plates, if a matching set, are valuable if only as collector items; they can be restored,
too, and probably can be used as Year-of-Manufacture items, for 1963 - 1969 cars.

I'd E-pay them !

Just for grins, what were the last years that both your plates were registered?

You all are wonderful folks. Each post and PM has been better than a greeting card . You've made me more optimistic than I have been in a long time.
Last week visit to the Doc-- he is very pleased with the progress. Altho improvement isn not as dramatic as it was, I could read a line on the chart that I haven't seen in a long time. Doc said it will take some time for the best vision. I am able to do my chores, but have to use a magnifying glass to read some smaller print. Doc has reduced my medication and only need to see him at two weeks unless there is a problem.

As for you, Tin-Can--You can chew my A$$ all you want, cause I got more A$$ than you got teeth!! WWHHOO-HHAAWWW to you too! My wife ( the medicine nazi-" you WILL take this medicine RIGHT NOW" )and son has ganged up on me to behave for the time being.---Rick we miss your comments here on the FL- hope things are going better for you too.

Hank, I got a LOL from your post. For Christmas I got a TV remote control that is about 5 inches wide and 10 inches tall--great big buttons--maybe I can find this one !

Charlie (UK) and I can attest to what a miricle there is in todays medical procedures. A few years ago we would probably been written off as permanetly blind. Please consider donating tissue or organs upon your passing . You can give someone a gift that is far better than you can imagine.

Again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers- there is still a ways to go..................................................MO

"I am able to do my chores" I think thats the first time that I'm happy to hear those words.

Hang in there, you can't keep a good mopar guy down!

I'm going to look through my software. A while back, I helped a guy with some computer problems that was legally blind. He had software called ZoomText that blows up the screen so you can see it really close up. You just move the mouse around to see the rest of the screen. I may have kept a copy of the software for my "records". Would you be interested in a copy (for evaluation use only of course)?

Steve, was GREAT to talk to you over the weekend.  Got the pictures of the 64....... you lucky dog.

Looks like someone else is planning on re-living their mis-spent youth.  Once you firm up plans let me know if their are any parts your hunting for.

After we talked I remember a couple of 63/4 Plymouth 4 Drs in the local wrecking yard and seems like at least one was a stick setup.  I'll try to get out there in the next week or so.

If memory serves correctly it's a complete car (318 poly) that they want to sell complete.  If nothing else I can probably get some pictures of the Z bar and some measurements for you.

Mike

That's what happened to ole Clay Wood down there. Went and had another 'quack' operate on his already operated on back. Guess what? He's all healed! Was feeling so good, he went and knocked up his old lady, and they had a child!
You can follow his footsteps!
Ridin' season is a short 60 some daze away. You and I both need to get our 'scoots out! Might do us some good mentally.

Jeeze, Mo,

Somehow I missed this whole thread. Really sorry you are having vision issues, but really glad you are getting better.

It's times like this a guy has to count his blessings. As I get older, I cuss the bejesus out of the fact my eyes aren't like a 20 year olds anymore. In fact, to me the worst part of aging is the effects on the eyes. But as bad as I think my vision problems are, they pale in comparison to what you are dealing with. I don't know what I'd do in the same situation, but you definitely show me that my piddly problems are nothing compared to what others are going through.

I have to say, Rick has the outlook we all need. Only in my minds eye, I'm still 18, or maybe 25 at the oldest. We are what we think we are, and a good outlook will take a guy a lot further than feeling down, old, and ugly all the time.

You ARE ugly, nothing anyone can do about that! But OLD is a frame of mind that can only take you down. Hang in there, MO!! Ugly's only skin deep!

Mike

Spit-can--If i knocked up my ol' lady it would be a double miricle ! ! !
Mike--I sent you a PM
Jimmy--I don't know if that mag. is available out here in the sticks. I will look for it

Yesterday I got some good news from the Doc. He says my vision has gone from 20/70 a couple weeks ago, to 20/50 He is very pleased with my progress --says for me to be patient--it takes time and I still have 16 stitches in my eye ( doesn't hurt) There is some roughness on the surface of the cornea and it needs to be smooth, so he put in a soft contact lens as a " bandage" I leave it in 24-7. And that helped my vision even more- I don/t need to use a magnifying glass on every print- just the smaller stuff, long as my eyes don't get tired.
JW (I GOT FINS ) tells me that lookin at nekid wemmen is good thereapy ----- that is the best presription I could have! ...............................................MO

..I wasn't making a value-judgements!!!! Just an observation!

BTW, 20:70 ain't all that bad-of-vision, let-alone 20:50!

My uncle had 20:200 (!) and he could fly private airplanes no problemo (with corrective lenses!)
